Vis Plavac is a high-quality wine, made from the oldest known variety of red grapes—Plavac mali. What really makes Vis Plavac mali special lies in its roots—literally. Indeed, the roots of its grapevines are found in a deep-profile sand, so the grapevines enjoy an extraordinary combination of deep soil moisture and sunshine on the surface.
Considering that it is grown on sandy soils—more precisely, on carbonate sands formed due to wind gusts—our Plavac is a pure original, with a completely different taste from the Plavac grapevines grown on Brač, Hvar or Pelješac.
From June to autumn, on the island of Vis, there is an extremely dry season during which rain is rare, but the sandy soil will provide the grapevines enough moisture to make the quality of the grapes truly outstanding.
Vis Plavac mali stands out from other varieties with its qualitative potential, its strength that does not fall below 14, 5%. It is intensely dark ruby in color, due to the tannin in its leathery skin membranes. It has a specific, slightly bitter, but pleasantly astringent taste and a very rich and complex aroma in which the intoxicating aromas of overripe dark fruit intertwine. This wine has an extremely long finish in the mouth and soft velvety tannins, perfectly integrated into the structure of the wine. It is ideal for making archival and long-aging wines.
